Alpaca profile: Bronco Bill

'Underappreciated' was the comment from Rachel Gsellman of MaRachel's Alpacas of Ohio when she saw Billie on shearing day in 2007. He was tucked away in a back pasture with three other junior herdsires. My husband, who secretly had a soft spot for Billie, decided to purchase him for Moonwood Farm on New Year's day. We love Billie's colour, the lovely 'S' shape of his head, neck and chest when he stands at attention, and his fleece, which is incredibly dense and crimpy for a black. Since being placed in his own pasture next to the girls, he's begun to carry himself with presence and grace, and we are eager to see his offspring in 2009, which will decide whether or not he has what it takes to be a sire.
